Texas gets nearly $103 million in federal aid to mitigate disaster risks

The Federal Emergency Management Agency granted Texas almost $103 million to buy and demolish 759 structures and other properties in flood-prone areas in Galveston County as part of the state's disaster-mitigation program. "We want to do everything we can to ensure that the cycle of devastation and rebuilding brought about by storms such as Hurricane Ike does not keep recurring," the agency said.
