Tigers back victorious war general for president

A group of ethnic Tamil political parties that serves as a proxy for Tamil Tiger rebels is backing Sarath Fonseka, the general who defeated the insurgency, in Sri Lanka's Jan. 26 presidential elections. The Tamil National Alliance said defeating incumbent President Mahinda Rajapaksa is a priority because of his questionable record on human rights and the respect for law and order.
