U.S. leads in growth of acid reflux problems, experts say

The prevalence of gastroesophageal reflux disease is increasing worldwide and the U.S. leads the way with up to 20% of the population having symptoms once per week, experts say. Being overweight and gaining weight are the main causes, according to Dr. Kenneth R. DeVault, who helped write the American College of Gastroenterology's GERD treatment guidelines.
