Investors in advanced biofuel need to be patient, exec says

Venture capital funding for advanced biofuels has gone down over the past several years due in part to lack of "near-term payoff," but the federal government "is still very much invested" in the sector, said Tom Brutnell, director of the Enterprise Rent-A-Car Institute for Renewable Fuels, which funds several biofuels research at the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center in St. Louis. "We really need to be in this for the long haul and to have anything substantial come online is going to be five to 10 years down the road," Brutnell said.
