Report: Retailers trimmed some jobs in December

The U.S. economy gained jobs in December, but specialty apparel and accessories retailers and department stores bucked the trend, cutting a combined 23,500 jobs after adding positions in November, according to the Labor Department. "It was the timing of hiring with a shift in Thanksgiving," said Moody's Analytics economist Scott Hoyt.
