More than half of 6,000 consumers surveyed worldwide by Accenture expressed an interest in purchasing a wearable electronics device, with 46% saying they were interested in smart watches and 42% enticed by the prospect of Internet-connected eyeglasses. "I think the magnitude [of interest] is surprising," said Accenture's David Sovie. "The question is always whether these emerging technologies will have a wide appeal among consumers." More than half of the surveyed consumers who plan to buy a smartphone said they want to get a "phablet," a hybrid mobile device that is between a phone and a tablet computer in display size.
