Lunch hour drives traffic gains at global eateries, NPD says

Restaurants are seeing the biggest traffic gains at lunch time in markets across the globe, according to NPD Group, whose latest report found lunch-hour gains in seven out of the 10 countries it tracks. In the U.S., the average check rose 2% in the third quarter, while traffic was flat. Some indicators, including NRA's Restaurant Performance Index, are showing signs that U.S. eateries will report better results for the fourth quarter.
