Yellen becomes first woman to lead Fed after Senate confirmation

Federal Reserve Vice Chairwoman Janet Yellen has been confirmed by the Senate to lead the central bank. The 56-26 vote is the narrowest margin for such approval in the Fed's history. Severe weather prevented many senators from getting to the Capitol to vote. Yellen is the first Democratic nominee to head the Fed since former President Jimmy Carter nominated Paul Volcker in 1979.
