Charter agreement leaves retiring teacher in a quandary:

After teaching for 30 years, Dennis Mischler, a fifth-year teacher at a charter school in Orleans Parish, La., learned he would lose his retirement health benefits unless he spent his last semester in a non-charter school run by the parish school system. Mischler's present school converted to a charter about two years ago, at which point its teachers were placed on a leave of absence from the Orleans Parish school system for three years.
