Cisco gets into the social-networking business

Networking hardware manufacturer Cisco Systems used the opening of the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas to announce the launch of Eos, a software platform that "allows media and entertainment companies to create, manage and grow online communities." Although it tends to be more well known for making the electronic "plumbing" that runs the Internet, Cisco hopes that helping other companies do social networking better will translate into increased sales of the hardware its new software runs on.
