Composite beams help speed construction of Illinois bridge

A new bridge in Illinois is the first permanent highway installation of Hybrid-Composite Beams, which some say are stronger and lighter than traditional beams. The lighter weight of the beams greatly reduced construction time for the new High Road Bridge, which was completed three months ahead of schedule. "The best route to reducing the growing backlog of deteriorated bridges is to embrace new technologies like HCBs that provide longer lives for new bridges," said Byron Danley, vice president of transportation at Teng & Associates.
