Will financial troubles and the growth of the Web result in the end of the print edition of The New York Times, and if so, what does that portend for journalism and journalists? Michael Hirschorn cites estimates that Web revenue would support about 20% of the paper's current personnel -- meaning that a move to Web-only publication could "devastate The Times' news-gathering capacity." However, Hirschorn believes, "The best journalists will survive, and eventually thrive."
