Southwest sees full-year gain in traffic, though load factor slips

Despite a fourth-quarter drop in revenue passenger miles, Southwest Airlines notched traffic increases for both the month of December and the full year, the company reported Tuesday. December traffic figures were up 1.1%, while the monthly load factor rose 1.5%. For all of 2008, traffic rose 1.6% to 73.5 billion revenue passenger miles, though the load factor dipped 1.4%.
