California's Clean Truck Program imposes stricter standards

Under their joint Clean Truck Program, Long Beach, Calif., and Los Angeles banned trucks for their ports that were built before 1994 or not retrofitted with exhaust filters to meet modern standards. The change went into effect Friday. By 2012, the cities will allow only trucks meeting federal 2007 emission standards, and other ports are considering a similar rule.
