Southers nomination draws more GOP opposition

GOP opposition to Erroll Southers appears to be mounting, just as the White House was hoping that recent security incidents would speed confirmation of the designated TSA chief. Six Republican senators on Wednesday demanded a further explanation for conflicting reports involving 20-year-old cases in which Southers has admitted accessing a federal database to check up on his estranged wife's boyfriend. As a result of the discrepancies, Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., has added a second "hold" to the Southers nomination, reinforcing an earlier effort by Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C.
