Texting can be useful for medication reminders

Medical providers say text messages can be a great way to help remind children and adults with chronic illnesses about medical appointments or to take their medication. They caution, however, that texting is not a substitute for all patient communications, can be expensive, and may not work if a patient loses their cell phone or changes numbers.
