Experts ID enzyme that may contribute to weight gain in older women

Estrogen seems to suppress the activity of the fat-regulating Aldh1a1 enzyme, which may explain why postmenopausal women, who have lower levels of the hormone, tend to gain weight, an animal study found. Targeting the enzyme may lead to the discovery of new obesity treatments specifically for women, researchers wrote in Diabetes.
