FDA begins rollout of Food Safety Modernization Act

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has proposed requiring processed-food manufacturers to implement, monitor and verify control programs, and "to have a plan for correcting problems and for keeping records that government inspectors could audit," writes Stephanie Strom. The regulations, which have a 120-day public comment period, could cost every company that must comply up to $30,000 per year, according to the FDA.
