Home equity rose in 2012

Americans' home equity jumped 20% in the first nine months of 2012, after five years of negative and stagnant trends, according to Federal Reserve data. A decline in the housing inventory has helped boost home prices in many U.S. markets, which in turn has led to the gains in home equity.
