Major Q3 growth is seen in app processors, firm reports

During the third quarter of 2012, revenue from mobile application processors for tablet computers was up 77% from the same period year earlier to hit $900 million, while smartphone app processor revenue rose 58% to $3.8 billion, according to Strategy Analytics. Apple was the leading supplier of app processors for tablets in Q3, followed by Nvidia, the market research firm estimated. For smartphone app processors, Qualcomm had the leading market share during the period with 42%, followed by Samsung Electronics with 27% and MediaTek with 12%, Strategy Analytics said.
