Obama snubs critics, taps Hagel and Brennan for top security posts

President Barack Obama today formally nominated former Sen. Chuck Hagel as his new Defense secretary and top counterterrorism official John Brennan as his new CIA chief. The picks will likely trigger a tough nomination battle in the Senate, with Hagel in particular likely to draw fierce opposition. Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., said Hagel's views were "outside the mainstream," and he criticized Obama for making an "in-your-face nomination."
