HCV treatment support program linked to better outcomes

Hepatitis C patients receiving antiviral treatment who participated in a multidisciplinary support program achieved better treatment compliance and outcomes than the control group, according to investigators from Spain. The program, which involved hepatologists, nurses, a pharmacist, a psychologist, a psychiatrist and an administrative assistant, "improves patient compliance and increases the efficiency of PegIFN alfa-2a and [ribavirin] compared to the conventional approach and is also a cost-effective strategy," researchers concluded in the journal Hepatology.
