How not to break bad news

There's an art to telling workers about budget cutbacks, uncertainty and layoffs. Don't try to soft-pedal it with alleged good news that doesn't measure up. Be honest, be quick and be specific about what employees can do to help. Your ability to keep morale from plummeting may turn on well-executed small gestures.
