Majority of companies still frown on social media on the job

Many senior IT and business executives still see their employees' social networking as a risky distraction -- and that skepticism could hamper their companies' efforts to harness the power of social media, writes Jon Brodkin. A survey of 1,400 companies with more than 100 employees found 54% still prohibit use of social networks on the job. A rift is likely to emerge between companies that seek to fight the social-media tide and those that embrace connectivity and treat their employees' networking as a valuable resource, experts argue.
