Pediatric cancer survivors have more heart disease risk factors

Study data showed pediatric cancer survivors were almost twice as likely to take blood pressure medication, 70% more likely to be diabetic and 60% more likely to take cholesterol-lowering drugs than siblings who didn't have cancer. "If the risk factors could be recognized and treated early it is hoped some of the long-term cardiac side effects could be averted," the lead researcher said.
