State and local innovations in electricity will lead the way in reducing carbon emissions, according to researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. A book based on MIT's work warns against a top-down "moonshot" effort toward electric innovations. Instead, encourage local innovation, deregulate and downsize industry players, and don't expect quick results, because many companies have a "strong interest in preserving the status quo," Richard Lester and David Hart write.
