Inventor of riding lawn mower dies

Cecil Pond, who invented the riding lawn mower, died late last month at age 87. He founded the firm Wheel Horse Products, now owned by Toro, and created the riding lawn mower, among other products. "It came out after World War II when suburbs were popping up everywhere and it revolutionized the industry by bringing the riding lawn mower to suburban homes," said Michael Martino Jr., who wrote a book on the company.
