Biocatalytic technology drives cosmetics sustainability

Biocatalytic processing is reducing the energy and solvent demands of cosmetics production, writes Gregory Nelson, chief technology officer at Eastman Chemical. The technology, however, still faces cost disadvantages. "While biocatalysts for the production of green and natural ingredients is still in its infancy, it holds great potential for the continued 'greening' of the cosmetics industry worldwide," Nelson writes.
