Google must make patent-use offers as part of settlement with FTC

Google must offer its competitors "fair and reasonable" terms for use of its patents as part of a settlement with the Federal Trade Commission. The settlement "establishes clear rules of the road for standards essential patents going forward," according to a statement from Google. The patent-licensing requirement, however, might not end lawsuits among Google and its rivals or prevent further FTC action, patent lawyers said.
