N.Y. to implement guidelines for identifying, treating sepsis

New York Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo will instruct hospitals in the state to implement aggressive measures for diagnosing sepsis in patients, including the use of a countdown-to-treatment protocol, according to a state official. The Society of Critical Care Medicine plans to release updated guidelines in January, and Cuomo is expected to call for hospitals to use a protocol that "aligns with proven best practices" as part of his State of the State address.
