GPS helps Indonesian indigenous stake claim to ancestral lands

GPS technology is helping indigenous communities in Indonesia map the boundaries of their ancestral lands and providing legal documentation in court battles over land rights. The maps show physical features of the terrain as well as holy sites. "Community mapmaking has been a successful tool to show the government that we are here, and that we want to protect our lands," Indigenous Peoples' Alliance of the Archipelago spokesman Rukka Sombolinggi said.
