A last-minute surge of shoppers drove the season's sales 2.7% higher than last year, despite an overall 15% decline in customer traffic in November and December, according to ShopperTrak. NRF hasn't reported its holiday results yet, but in mid-December it reiterated a forecast calling for a 3.9% increase, and most major retailers will reveal their holiday numbers next month.
