Many States Ill-Prepared For Onslaught Of Tests

Only nine states currently administer math and reading exams that would satisfy the federal education bill's requirements on annual testing for third- through eighth-graders, according to an Education Week analysis. States that don't comply by the 2005-2006 school year would risk losing funding from the U.S. Department of Education.
