FDA continues ban on silicone breast implants

In a surprise move, the FDA rejected an FDA expert advisory panel recommendation, and concluded that silicone gel breast implants should not be allowed back on the market for general use because there is insufficient data to indicate safety over the long term. The agency also published new, tougher guidelines for establishing the safety of the implants.
