Anxiety grows at BASF as rough economy takes toll

The global economic slump has forced BASF, the world's largest chemical maker, to shut down 40 large-scale units worth billions in euros. The company has been an enormous force and source of pride in German industry, but the recession is taking its toll on the company and it has had to revise downward its business forecast for 2009.
