Some manufacturers, retailers face lawsuits over horsepower labeling

Dozens of lawsuits against Briggs & Stratton Corp. and other manufacturers of small engines are in U.S. District Court in Milwaukee. The suits allege that the manufacturers and some retailers labeled identical engines with different horsepower ratings. However, some manufacturers say the horsepower calculation can vary depending on the conditions in which the engine operates.
