Researchers ID patterns that show weight-loss benefits

A study in Diabetes Care identified two biomarker patterns that indicate both the short-term benefits of weight loss and the long-term benefits of a healthy diet. Pattern A biomarkers -- including insulin, triglycerides and leptin -- measured in the weight-loss phase trended in the opposite direction during the weight maintenance and regain phase, while pattern B markers that include high molecular weight adiponectin, high-density lipoprotein cholesterol and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein, showed continuous improvements throughout the treatment.
