Veterinary pharmaceutical field is growing increasingly crowded

The number of pharmacies offering veterinary drugs is growing and now includes the likes of Kroger, Wal-Mart and Walgreens. U.S. Rep. Jim Matheson, D-Utah, wants to mandate that veterinarians write prescriptions for clients, though the AVMA contends veterinarians already do so when clients request written prescriptions. As pharmaceutical competition grows, veterinarians are losing business, often forcing practices to raise prices for services.
