Calif. education officials recommend suspension of some assessments

California, among other states, is in the process of replacing its existing statewide assessments with new tests that will be more in line with the Common Core State Standards. State education officials are recommending suspension of tests that are not federally mandated to give teachers more "breathing room." Critics say this move could reduce accountability.
