Sprint announces plan to produce smartphones with FM chips

Sprint on Tuesday announced it has agreed to produce Android- and Windows-based smartphones with FM radio chips. The deal was brokered by Jeff Smulyan, CEO of Emmis Communications, whose company has collaborated with the NAB on the NextRadio application that will be used in the smartphones. "This opportunity combines the strengths of the Sprint network with the impact of America's radio stations," said NAB President and CEO Gordon Smith. "It is the type of business-to-business partnership that recognizes the unique strengths of the wireless networks and the radio industry and provides services that are so important to the American people."
