Indoor heat comes from soda-can furnace that taps the sun

Mechanical engineering professor Aaron Brown and his students have designed a solar-powered furnace that, for about $30 worth of materials, can cut home heating costs by a similar amount each month. The design uses 144 aluminum soda cans heated by sunlight to warm cool air that is drawn into the base and then distributed through ventilation holes. In one trial, the heater warmed a 60-degree room to 90 degrees in 20 minutes.
