Merrill: SIVs have $70 billion in debt maturing in 2008

Analysts at Merrill Lynch & Co. say about a dozen SIVs that have not been rescued by banks have to repay a total of $21 billion of medium-term notes by April. Refinancing "is likely to remain a concern for nonbank sponsored SIVs this year," the analysts wrote. "The influence of SIVs on the overall structured finance market is likely to remain negative."
