Washington bill to connect schools, local growers:

A bill slated to be offered in Washington state next week could make the state an innovator in terms of national efforts to get more locally grown, fresh foods into school lunches. Among other things, the proposed legislation would pay for two new staff in the state Agriculture Department to help get schools, farms and wholesalers together, as well as allocate $250,000 for research into how farms might cooperatively market and distribute their produce.
