Blog: Frequent fliers may find fixed-value points more common

The new trend among major airlines seems to be transforming awards programs so they offer fixed-value points, this blog notes. It's a more complex scheme -- one that could confuse the frequent flier and leave airlines in a jam. "If miles come to represent a fixed value towards the purchase of existing airfares, airlines will lose a key distribution channel for their unsold inventory," Jason Steele writes.
