Government requests review of influenza research

In the wake of recent research that created an easily transmitted form of highly pathogenic avian influenza between ferrets, federal officials have asked the National Science Advisory Board for Biosecurity to review all of the current research on the virus. The panel will address, among other issues, whether to impose a ban on published influenza research for a period of three to six months.
