Natural gas drillers urge New York to complete fracking review

The Independent Oil and Gas Association of New York is asking the state's Department of Environmental Conservation to conclude its environmental review of hydraulic fracturing to give way to the start of drilling operations, saying delays in the study have led to the loss of industry jobs. "We expect the final documents to be released in 2012. If the final documents determine high-volume hydraulic fracturing could move forward in New York, we could begin to review permit applications after the final [environmental impact statement] is released," said DEC spokeswoman Emily DeSantis.
