Construction of the Interstate 5 Willamette River Bridge -- the largest component of the Oregon Transportation Department's $1.3 billion statewide bridge repair and replacement program -- is using the construction manager/general contractor method for project delivery. This article explains the importance of collaboration when using CM/GC, and details the benefits, including accelerated delivery without losing control of project costs, writes Tim Dodson. Hamilton Construction will be the contractor, and OBEC Consulting Engineers will do the design and engineering.
