AT&T to boost Wi-Fi deployments as part of small-cell initiative

AT&T says it will increasingly turn to Wi-Fi technology to bolster its wireless networks, with plans for 10,000 new macrocells and 40,000 small cells under its Project Velocity IP. "Our objective for 2014 is that we won't do any small cell or in-building systems that don't include Wi-Fi," said John Donovan, senior executive vice president, AT&T Technology and Network Operations.
