Laptop sales will slide behind tablets this year, NPD says

Consumers will buy more tablet PCs than laptops this year, according to a forecast from NPD Group that estimates tablet sales will grow 64% through 2013, totaling 240 million units. "The tablet PC market saw increasing investments in North America in the second half of 2012, from major brands that tested not only new screen sizes and price points, but also unconventional business models to support their efforts," NPD DisplaySearch's Richard Shim said in a statement.
