Shell says safety guided moving of Alaskan drilling rig

Rep. Edward Markey, D-Mass., questioned in a letter the timing of Royal Dutch Shell's decision to move its Kulluk drilling rig off the Alaskan coast, saying it might have been fueled by the company's desire to evade taxes on the vessel. Alaska could have levied a tax on the rig, which ran aground on New Year's Eve, if it remained in the state until Jan. 1. Shell, however, said safety was the reason for the move.
